Relative Providers

This page is meant for Relative in Child’s Home and Relative Care Listed Home providers. Because of the nature of relative care, there are a few things that work a little differently for you than for a licensed child care center — most importantly, how you log your hours.

Logging Attendance with IVR

Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR) is the phone-based system you’ll use to log that attendance. It does not require access to the Internet and can be used on a cellphone or a landline phone — for example, press 1 to clock the child in. IVR only logs live attendance and cannot enter backdated times.

Note: As a Relative in Child’s Home or Relative Care Listed Home provider, you must use IVR to log attendance. KinderSign and KinderSmart are not available for these provider types.

Requirements for Using IVR

IVR requires the sponsors (parents/caregivers) to call from the relative provider’s phone number of record in the KinderConnect system, and they will verify they are the owner of the sponsor record. To log children in and out of care, the phone must be:

  • A landline or mobile phone
  • Active phone service

IVR attendance must be recorded at the provider’s location using the relative provider’s phone number of record. Each provider who will use IVR must have a KinderConnect Operator Account with a phone number and PIN code saved. This means all relative providers with children in care need to have a KinderConnect account.
